About Draycott
Draycott is a village within the borough of Erewash which according to the 2011 census has 3,000 residents. Draycott has a range of houses from Victorian terrace properties on Sydney Street through to Victorian and Edwardian semi detached homes found on Fowler Street, Station Road and Market Street through to detached houses on Milner Avenue and there are a whole range of houses on the main road which runs through the village centre where there are homes dating back to Victorian times and earlier through to semi detached properties and individual detached homes, many of which Robert Ellis have sold over the years.

A unique building in the middle of Draycott is Victoria Mill which was originally built between 1888 and 1907 as a lace factory which is 616ft in length, is four storey’s high and in its day was considered the largest lace factory in one block in the world. Over most recent years this iconic building which has around 228 windows providing natural light to the floors of lace manufacturing equipment has now been converted into luxurious apartments which are very poplar for people to buy and live in or to rent with off the road parking being provided.

Draycott village has a number of local shops and other businesses based around the centre on Market Street with there being Co-op convenience stores located in the nearby villages of Breaston and Borrowash as well s Long Eaton which is approximately 3 miles away where Asda and Tesco superstores and many other retail outlets can be found, with there also being a Sainsbury’s and Costco at Pride Park and a further Asda at Spondon.
Schools in Draycott
The Draycott primary school is based on Hopwell Road and this provides children with schooling up to the age of 11 when they will have the option to move to senior schools at Sandiacre where there is the Friesland School or The Wilsthorpe Academy at Long Eaton, both of which have over recent years gained excellent reputations.
Events in Draycott
There is an extremely strong and vibrant community spirit in Draycott with the Draycott village fund raising money to carry out local works within the village to improve the area which has benefited all the local residents and in turn made the village become and even more popular place in which to live that has had the knock on effect of improving property values with Robert Ellis being able to provide up to date valuations on properties throughout Draycott and the surrounding area. If you drive through Draycott over the Christmas period you will see the Christmas trees and lights outside many of the properties within the village with the brackets in place for the trees being used for flags to be displayed during different times of the year. There are also plaques outside many of the older properties to commemorate soldiers who have lived in Draycott and fought in the first world war and during the period of Spring to Autumn, the team of nibblers brighten the village with Draycott in Bloom which carries out planting across the village, all of which has helped Draycott win various gold awards for the way the village is presented and looked after by the local residents. Things to do in Draycott
The village has a number of local pubs which includes the Coach and Horses, the Olympic Hotel, the Victoria Hotel and the Draycott Tap House and Mircro Brewery which is located in the heart of the village. The Rose and Crown was another pub, which over recent years has been altered and refurbished to create an individual home with two new cottages being built to the left with these homes having been sold and let by Robert Ellis.
On the outskirts of the village is the Church Wilne Water Sports Centre which provides lessons to beginners and more experienced people for water skiing and wakeboarding and close to this venue is Orchid Wood Nature Walk which is a plantation of various trees which have now matured to provide a lovely area to walk with there being an adjacent car park and from Orchid Wood there is the coffin pathway which connects to St Chad’s Water and Nature Reserve which is a 12 acre nature reserve located on Wilne Lane next to the original parish church of St Chad’s.
Over recent years the Nottinghamshire and Derby canal trust have excavated large sections of the original Derby canal on the outskirts of the village and during 2021 have upgraded and refurbished a number of cottages which are accessed from Hopwell Road and during the early part of 2022 these are being let and managed by Robert Ellis. These cottages are located next door to Draycott Fields Farm which has become a large provider of quality Christmas trees which are growing in the fields with local people being able to choose their own Christmas tree whilst it is still in the ground.
